BOARD PRESIDENT | executive director AND FOUNDER
My name is Judy Haddad, and I am the mother of Ilan Hurtado, in whose memory 5 Purple Oranges was founded. Ilan and I were incredibly fortunate in that he was able to explore and learn what he chose either through free programs or through scholarships and financial aid. I am fortunate in being in a position now to be able to help other children become more well-rounded individuals while keeping my son’s legacy alive. As a former children’s librarian and museum educator, I have a strong background in educational and aspirational programs for children, and I hope to help guide the organization in choosing programs that will successfully achieve our mission.
My name is Carolyn Haddad. Ilan was my grandson. I was so blessed to have him in my life. I never particularly cared whether or not I had grandchildren until I held him in my arms after he was born. It was love at first sight, at first touch, at first snuggle. He was a joyous individual, and it is my pleasure to join a board dedicated to giving to other children the same sense of delight in the world he had.
I am a Senior Marketing Manager for Benjamin Moore & Co., a unit of Berkshire Hathaway, North America’s favorite paint, color and coatings brand. I have over 7 years’ experience in the paint industry. In my current role, I work with the field marketing team to implement retail marketing programs across North America.
Prior to Benjamin Moore, I worked agency sided on the Toyota Scion and AT&T media accounts. I graduated from Marywood University with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing with a minor in Advertising. I also obtained my Master’s Degree in Media Management from Marywood University. I volunteer for the NJ Chapter for the National Ovarian Cancer. In my spare time, I enjoy knitting and crocheting.
I have lived in Savannah for 25 years. I recently retired from a 20 year career as a commercial insurance agent to open Big South BBQ Co, a restaurant in Rincon GA, with my husband. I have three grown children.
I've known Judy since we were in high school in Atlanta and while I never got the chance to meet Ilan, he and Judy will always have a special place in my heart. It is an honor and a privilege to help Judy carry on Ilan's memory by being part of the 5PO team.
I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I graduated from Lake Forest College with a degree in Economics. After an internship with United Airlines in their Grievance Department, I pursued an inside sales career with Forsythe Technology. Following the birth of my first child, I committed to being a full time mother. I live in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Raising three children is my primary focus, but I help manage local community events and provide occasional financial consulting services. I feel fortunate to have known Ilan and enjoy hearing stories involving him from my son who went to school with him.
I was born and raised in the North Chicago Suburbs and currently reside in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood. While I have no children of my own I do have seven nieces and nephews and five great nieces and nephews. Over the course of my life I’ve been employed in the Information Technology sector and have also held non-profit board seats. 5 Purple Oranges is a fantastic charity that I’m happy to participate in.
A graduate of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, I grew up in south Florida, where I returned after college to teach high school English. After moving to north central Florida to marry the love of my life, I became a premium auditor with AIG, where I have been for almost 15 years. I travel throughout the southeastern United States for business, making friends wherever I go. In my spare time, I travel for pleasure with my husband Lee, love on my dogs, make award winning homemade jam (First place at the Florida State Fair!!), and share Young Living Essential Oils with everyone I meet. It is through Young Living that I met Judy Haddad and learned of this amazing legacy that she has created for her son.
